Prospect houses

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020–2024 five-year estimates) counts about 3,703 housing units in Prospect. About 84% of Prospect's homes are single-family detached houses, and about 94% are owner-occupied. The 1960s were the biggest building decade by far, and only about 8.5% of homes predate 1940.

A 1960s bathroom often has wall tile in a strong color, a steel or cast-iron tub and a small window over it. That tile was often set in a thick mortar bed that has held up well. It's heavy to remove, though, so demolition and disposal show up as a real line in a Prospect bid.

Common Prospect projects

  • A colored-tile 1960s bath taken down to the studs and rebuilt in marble-look porcelain.
  • A tub-over-shower kept but retiled, with a new valve and glass in place of the curtain.
  • A small window over the tub replaced with obscure glass and better sealing.

FAQ·Good questions

Asked on most first calls

Brief answers. If your house has a twist we haven't covered, call and tell us about it.

01How far is Prospect from Waterbury?

Central Prospect is about 13 minutes and 6 road miles from central Waterbury.

02What size vanity works in a Prospect primary bath?

Width comes first. A 60-inch vanity fits two sinks with some counter left over. At 48 inches, one sink and more drawers usually works better day to day. Drawers beat doors for storage, and a quartz top shrugs off makeup and hair products better than marble.

03Do you work on newer Prospect homes too?

Yes. About 44% of Prospect homes were built in 1980 or later, per the Census Bureau, and those bathrooms are often the easiest to open up. Most of those jobs are about the look: tile in place of a fiberglass surround, a bigger vanity and better light.

04Where do we see tile and fixture samples?

At your Prospect home. We bring tile, stone and fixture samples so you can judge them in the room's own light, and we measure on the same visit.
