One room, every trade in it

A bathroom crams framing, plumbing, wiring, ventilation, waterproofing, tile, glass and finish carpentry into maybe forty square feet. Focusing on bathrooms means we've already run into the surprises: a joist notched for a 1920s drain, a fan vented into the attic, a tub too heavy for the stairs.

Waterbury's houses add their own surprises. The Census Bureau counts about 31% of the city's homes as built before 1940. Those houses bring plaster walls, painted trim, settled floors and bathrooms that were often squeezed in after the house was built. Roughly a quarter went up in 1980 or later, and their bathrooms usually need a new look more than new bones. We plan for either from the first visit.

Who does what

Our crew handles design, demolition, dust protection, framing, waterproofing, tile, vanities and trim, and we coordinate the plumbing, wiring and custom glass so they land in the right order. You deal with one crew and one schedule.

How we work

  • We measure the room ourselves before drawing anything.
  • You see real tile, stone and metal samples in your own bathroom's light.
  • Plastic walls and covered floors keep the dust in the bathroom.
  • The waterproofing gets photographed before tile covers it, and you keep the photos.
  • The written price lists every part of the job before demolition starts.
  • One person from the crew is your contact from the first visit to the last.

What we like building

Our favorite jobs mix old and new: a reglazed cast-iron tub on a fresh hex floor, or a plain 1990s hall bath turned into a tiled walk-in shower with a bench and a niche. We like honed marble, unlacquered brass that darkens with use, and grout lines that run straight from the floor up the wall. If you'd rather have a clean modern room with large porcelain and matte black fixtures, we build those too. The price guide lists published ranges with their sources, so you can get a feel for the budget before we measure.

Other rooms we take on

Questions about how we work?

Call or use the form. Tell us which floor the bathroom is on, roughly how big it is, whether you want a tub, a shower or both, and about when the house was built. We book a visit to measure and look at the plumbing, bring tile and fixture samples, and send a written, itemized price.
